Meetings Industry Trends 2024

Posted on February 15th, 2024

We recently held our Destination Michigan Thought Leaders luncheons in Lansing and metro Detroit and were able to identify trends in the meetings industry.

  1. Technology Integration for Enhanced Experiences: Technology continues to revolutionize the meetings landscape, offering innovative solutions for engagement, networking, and content delivery. From virtual reality (VR) experiences and augmented reality (AR) features to AI-powered matchmaking algorithms, event organizers are leveraging cutting-edge technologies to create immersive and interactive experiences for attendees. Mobile event apps, live polling, and gamification elements are also becoming increasingly popular, enhancing participant engagement and driving meaningful interactions.
  2. Focus on Sustainability and Eco-Friendly Practices: As environmental concerns take center stage globally; the meetings industry is embracing sustainable practices and eco-friendly initiatives. Event organizers are prioritizing venues with green certifications, reducing waste through digital registration and communication tools, and implementing recycling and composting programs. Sustainable catering options, eco-conscious transportation solutions, and carbon offset initiatives are also gaining traction, reflecting a growing commitment to environmental stewardship within the industry.
  3. Personalization and Customization for Enhanced Engagement: In an era of personalized experiences, attendees expect tailored content and engagement opportunities that resonate with their interests and preferences. Event organizers are leveraging data analytics and attendee profiling to deliver personalized agendas, curated networking opportunities, and targeted content recommendations. Customizable event formats, interactive sessions, and one-on-one meetings enable participants to create meaningful connections and derive greater value from their event experiences.
  4. Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Initiatives: The push for diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) has gained momentum across industries, including the meetings sector. Organizations are actively promoting diversity in speaker lineups, addressing accessibility barriers, and fostering inclusive environments that welcome individuals from diverse backgrounds and perspectives. DEI-focused workshops, unconscious bias training, and diversity audits are helping to create more equitable and representative events that reflect the richness of human experiences.
